Temptations are a common struggle all of us face in our everyday lives. It can range from drugs or alcohol, to maybe cheating on a test or lying to your parents to get out of something bad you did. Temptation is always there, and it can constantly tug at your brain if you give it the power to. I, for example, face my own personal temptations MULTIPLE times a day… Yeah, I know, I bet most of us can relate to that statement. When I am put in that situation, I have to really think before I act on my decision. I consciously have to repeat to myself, “Is this worth the possible consequences that could likely haunt me for the rest of my life?” And it’s really hard, because in that moment, that decision you make seems like the solution to all of your problems- no more stressing, no more waiting, no more unease. You could even find yourself wondering “Why is it there God, if I can’t take it or have it?” But God places these temptations in our lives to test us. And I believe that the way you respond is what sets you apart from the rest of the crowd. Society nowadays normalizes a lot of temptations we as teenagers face, especially in highschool. Right now, you’re going through a very critical and influential time in your life. High School is full of people trying to pressure you into “stealing just one shirt” or “just take one sip”. It’s really hard trying to counter all of the people falling into the trap that is set right in front of them. But if God didn’t place these things into our lives, how would you set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd? Everyone has temptations, it’s a normal human habit. It’s the way you respond that makes you stronger and separates you from everyone else. I want you to know though, everyone falls into their own temptations, and that’s normal, you are not alone. Trust me, if anyone understands what you’re going through, it would be me (I mean I’m only a year older than y’all), I’ve been there. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, he just expects us to be our best. If you ever go through something that you need advice on, please don’t hesitate to come up to your Catechists or your Senior Helpers. Sarah and I are teenagers too and are trying to figure it all out just like you. It’s easier when you have someone to talk to, and we are all here for you whenever you need it.
